Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS) is an active RFID based asset tracking system that monitors the current location of Protrac iD tags in real time.
Asset Tracking, Inventory Tracking, Patient Tracking & Call, Personnel Tracking & Accountability…Protrac iD makes the job easy
Protrac iD RFID Asset Tracking and Real Time Locating Systems tags can be either low cost limited range “passive” tags or long range “active” tags. Each RFID asset tracking tag is associated with an item or person and enables discovery of their exact location in real time.
Tags attached to assets are selected according to the type of asset, its material and size, its environment, tracking (reading) distance required and quantity. Both active and passive tags are used for asset tracking. Tags worn by people are generally of the active RFID type.
Passive RFID asset tracking system tags are affixed as labels to containers. The item status is read using a handheld scanner or automatically by a “portal” reader system. Passive tags are only detected when in close proximity to the reader and must also be orientated correctly to the reader in order to identify and locate the equipment. For these reasons, passive RFID tracking system tags have limited application for automatic tracking.
In contrast, Protrac iD’s Real Time Locating Systems are based on Active RFID asset tracking tags. Active tags may also have additional facilities, for example for monitoring security and environmental factors. This makes Protrac ID’s RTLS the ideal solution for automatic asset tracking, theft prevention and inventory management, as well as for environmental monitoring.
AssetTrac by Protrac iD can be custom designed to meet your individual requirements. Detailed graphic displays show the status of assets in real time using cloud-based tracking, with the facility to raise security alerts. Our RFID asset tracking software also includes database recording to allow for detailed historical reporting. Designed and developed in Australia, the asset tracking system integrates easily and inexpensively with other systems.

AssetTrac reader network
Reader and antenna placements are arranged to detect movement of tags from zone to zone and provide input for RTLS, environmental or security monitoring as required.
Readers are selected for required network connectivity. Common networks are TCP/IP, RS422 LAN and combinations of RS422 LAN and TCP/IP gateways.
Readers for active and passive tag types are interconnected on the same network.
Hand held portable readers are also employed for passive tags. These generally communicate by Wi-Fi, Blue Tooth or GPRS.
